Newt’s in Rochester

After driving about 45 minutes from Cannon Falls to Newts in Rochester, the galloping gourmets and their friends were starved and excited to dine at this so-called delicious restaurant, which had great reviews.  When we strolled in, we were crammed into a small waiting area and we were told the wait would be around 20 minutes until we got a table. The bar was hopping with eager and noisy socializing customers. Once we were seated, we were greeted by a mediocre waiter who took our orders and gave us complimentary popcorn to snack on before receiving our meals.

The first galloping gourmet, Sadie, ordered her favorite, cheese curds and garlic cheese bread. Honestly, they were the worst cheese curds she ever had. They were plain, unsalty, and the breading was just weird. The garlic cheese bread was nothing to brag about either. The second galloping gourmet, Kelli, decided to order a bacon cheeseburger, since Newt’s has received a best burger award for 8 years in a row. Kelli was ready to sink her teeth into a tasty burger, but instead she was presented with a dry, flavorless hunk of hamburger. Her meal included fries, which were better than the burger, but still nothing great. Our dear friend, Rylie, ordered a chicken sandwich along with fried pickles. The chicken sandwich was anything but special, and her fried pickles were burnt, making only a few of them edible. Matt, on the other hand, got a chicken wrap. He thought the onion and lettuce in the wrap were way too overpowering. Likewise, he was not a fan of the fries because of their overwhelming amount of salt.

Overall our experience at Newt’s was below average. We are giving the place a generous 5 out of 10. Nothing really caught our eye to make us want to come again. From the poor food, long drive, and ordinary service, the galloping gourmets won’t be galloping back to this pub anytime soon.
