CFHS athletes and adults receive recognition at the Hall of Fame banquet
Sunday, May 7th, Cannon Falls seniors, parents, and veterans of the Cannon Falls Schools Athletic Program gathered in the lunchroom to honor both this year’s senior athletes and dedicated former members of Cannon Falls Athletics. The event started at 7:00 p.m. with a classy yet hearty chicken dinner with baked potato, veggies, milk and sherbet. Once everyone had gotten their food the ceremony began.
Senior athletes who were in attendance all received a senior athletics award with a personalized message from their coaches on it. Then a new set of awards was introduced: the senior star awards. Any student who was in three Cannon Falls sports and maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average received one. Finally the Cannon Falls best senior athletes were presented for both the boys and girls. Carlton Lindow won the boys’ award and a rare tie had happened with the girls, both Annika Thomley and Sandra Regenscheid won. After the senior awards were presented, there were several inductees into the Cannon Falls Sports hall of fame for their outstanding positive impact on Cannon Falls sports.
Mason Grimes was a senior who attended the ceremony and received a senior star award for his time in cross country, track, and soccer. The first comment he made was, “The food was good.” When questioned about his senior star award he said he was “surprised, if I didn’t do cross country and soccer I wouldn’t have got it, I am happy to have been able to do two sports in one semester.” Further in the interview Grimes was asked about what he thought of the inductees into the Hall of Fame section of the night. “They deserved it from what they accomplished,” Grimes commented, “It is helpful to the sports program to give them credit, you can’t let the coaches go unnoticed and it inspires the younger generation.” The hall of fame awards for Cannon Falls Athletics not only recognizes graduating senior athletes, it gives credit to anyone who has made an impact on Cannon Falls sports. It inspires students not only to work hard in their sports, but to also appreciate their coaches and the people that make Cannon Falls sports possible.
