CFHS baseball team caps a strong season with successful opening playoff game
The Bomber boys baseball team has played its way to a 14-6 record this season and earned the 2nd seed for the playoffs. After destroying the 7th seeded Triton Cobras on Thursday, May 21st in the first round 11-1, the Bombers will face the #3 Kasson-Mantorville Komets in the second round on May 23rd.
The Bombers had impressive performances in both conference and nonconference matches. Racking up a record of 11-5, the Bombers placed 2nd in the HVL to the undefeated Rochester Lourdes. They also ended with a 3-1 nonconference record, putting together good pitching with solid hitting to rack up runs, 10-running their opponents thrice. On Thursday in the first round of subsections, the Bombers 10-runned the Cobras as they hit the ball well and kept the bases cleared on defense. An impressive performance all around, the team hopes to keep up the good play and keep winning battles to win the war.
“I think we got a lot better as the season progressed,” junior third baseman Jason Traynor said. “We started playing more as a team. This is the time of the season where we need to hit our stride and make a push into the postseason, and we are in position to do just that.”
Junior pitcher Michael Monson echoed his thoughts. “It’s been pretty great so far. Hopefully we can put together more performances like last night to keep on advancing through the tournament this weekend and then whatever comes after, one game at a time.”
Following the second round, the winner of the battle will advance to the subsection championship game May 25th in Stewartville. As the tournament is double-elimination, one loss puts the Bombers in a hole, but not one too big to climb out of. The path to state is open from the front and the back.
