Imagine Dragons
The Lantern reviews an Imagine Dragons concert
As the lights turned off, phones lit up the dark like stars. Artists Grouplove and K. Flay may have opened the concert with two awesome performances, but the main focus of the night was obviously Imagine Dragons. Everyone anxiously awaited Imagine Dragons to take the stage when, all of a sudden, two TV screens on either side of the stage lit up with static. Hearing a voice like an old news report, the screen flashed to a black and white image of a tiny molecule. As the video progressed, we saw evolution take place, creating a man. The TVs turned off and brilliant rainbow colors illuminated the stage as Imagine Dragons played their first song.
As the concert progressed, videos periodically played explaining the meaning behind their tour. Personally, I thought that this was really cool, because it really helped explain what their songs were all about. The music alone, without any other effects, was incredible. I was a little afraid at first, because it sounded like the lead singer of the band, Dan Reynolds, was lipsynching. This would have been really disappointing, being that this is my first concert, but he actually sang some songs acapella. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Dan Reynolds has an absolutely amazing voice.
Another thing that I personally loved, was that Reynolds was such an amazing motivational speaker, and he would stop at any time during the concert just to say something inspiring. He also talked about his own personal experiences, like explaining his struggles with depression and turning to music to heal him. He discussed the meanings behind certain songs, which I was very grateful for. For instance, if Reynolds hadn’t explained it, I would have never known that one of their first songs, “Demons”, was about depression.
All in all, I would love to say that this was the best concert I’ve ever been to, but I don’t have anything to compare it to yet. However, this was an amazing first concert experience for me. I loved how humble and down to earth Reynolds was when he spoke and, of course, the music was awesome. This was an incredible experience that is going to be hard to forget. To give it a rating, it was definitely a 12 out of 10 stars because it exceeded my expectations. I will definitely be going to more of their concerts in the future.
