The Lantern reviews Cannon Falls eatery, Nick’s Diner
Many people remember it as the building Barak Obama visited when he was president. However, it was sold, remodeled, and became a new diner. Across from the Cannon Falls library sits Nick’s Diner, a small place to eat. Many people drive by and see it after school or work, but they usually aren’t able to eat there because of their hours. Unfortunately, the local eatery is only open from 7am-3pm causing a major problem. Kids in school can’t eat there during the weekdays because by the time school is out, the place will be closed. I think this is the main reason why many people may not have eaten there before. However, their food is definitely worth the inconvenience of their hours. They may not serve dinner, but people often go there on weekends for breakfast or lunch.
I went out to eat at the diner for breakfast on Sunday morning. The place wasn’t too busy, so my dad and I were able to sit wherever we wanted. My dad and I both decided to order stuffed french toast, along with a pancake. The wait was fairly quick and before I knew it, a pancake and a pile of french toast buried under whipped cream was placed in front of me. Pancakes are an ordinary item, making this side nothing special. However, the french toast was a different story.
Two slices of french toast were stacked on top of each other and they were oozing with cream. To top it off, there was a strawberry glaze and a mountain of whipped cream. It was absolutely scrumptious! Nick’s french toast was definitely the best I have ever had.
Nick’s diner may have really inconvenient hours, but they do make awesome food. The pancake was average, but the french toast was delicious. Although, that was the only item on the menu I have tried so far. They have an abundance of other breakfast meals; omelets, eggs, blueberry pancakes, hashbrowns, and more. I would definitely recommend Nick’s Diner to everyone and would rate it a 9 out of 10. Based on how delicious breakfast was, I would expect lunch to be nothing less than excellent.
