Boys’ soccer has started the season with a kick! This team is already halfway through the season and has a 1-11-1 record. This is already a notable improvement compared to last season with 1 more win and a tie. The boys talk about their new and improved season.
The 2024 team has four captains: Cameron Addington, Brandon White, Andrew McGeough, and Micah Nelson. Unfortunately for the team, Cameron suffered an ACL tear while playing a game against Southwest Christian Academy. Junior captain Micah Nelson speaks on the loss of their center mid, “We have been flexible ever since Cam has been injured, but we find ways to make it work.” They have come off strong ever since and have been working hard to fill the hole.
A big difference between this season and last year is the CO-ed expansion. Goodhue is now able to compete with Cannon Falls and Randolph in both girls’ and boys’ soccer. Unfortunately, only one Goodhue player was added to the roster for this 2024 season. Hopefully next fall more people will be going out from each of the three schools.
Even though the soccer team graduated three starters, the boys have seen noteworthy improvements. First, their time of possession- which is the amount of time they have the ball- has increased by 80%. They also have more shots on goal compared to last season. Lastly, all of their games have been a lot closer in score.
The boy’s first win of the season was against Schaeffer Academy. The final score against the private school was 4-2. Junior, Brekken Baird says “The win felt really good because we finally won.” Their tie was against Fairmont, a team that they had to travel 3 hours to play against.
Heading into the second half of their season, the bombers hope to get another win under their belts. A goal for the remainder of the year is to beat Red Wing and Plainview Elgin Millville. The guys also hope to get more fans to come to the games. So make sure you show up to all of the games that you can and support Bomber Soccer!
