The Cannon Falls Bomber Girls Soccer team has played 10 games so far. Many resulted in outstanding efforts, which ended in ties or wins with some great teams. The Bombers continue to grow and get stronger each day, whether playing a game or just practicing. The Cannon Falls Girls Soccer team includes girls from Cannon Falls, Randolph, and now welcomes Goodhue this year. The team had 6 girls from Goodhue come out for soccer which has helped this team strive and become stronger than they already were.
Kendyl Lodermeier is one of the couple girls from Goodhue who decided to try soccer out for the first time this year. “My favorite part about soccer is that it is something completely new to me…I went into the season not knowing anything about soccer,” stated Lodermeier. She reflects on how her coaches and teammates have been patient and helpful with her. Lodermeier noted, “They have given me lots of advice and answered any questions I have had.” Lodermeier is very thankful for the support she has received from this team. When asked about the team chemistry, Lodermeier responded, “The soccer team chemistry is outstanding because of a team effort from the coaches and players that has created an environment I enjoy playing in!” It’s evident from watching the team play that the girls are very close with each other and are always lifting each other up. Lodermeier believes that the team has great trust in each other which helps them play strong together on the field.
One of the captains of the Bomber Girls Soccer team is Kiley Jeppesen. Jeppsen is a junior who is a significant part of the varsity squad. When asked about what is going well in the season so far, Jeppesen responded, “Something that is going well this season is our accuracy and solid passes. We have been doing firm passes that have been going up the field flawlessly.” The Bombers have been working very hard this season, especially focusing on improvements that the team needs. Jeppesen stated, “We could improve on taking shots right away and our containment of the ball.”
Ava Hernke is a sophomore this year and is an important part of the Girl’s Soccer team. Hernke shared some goals that her team has for the rest of the season. She stated, “Our team’s goals for the rest of the season are to play our best and finish our season strong… hopefully get a couple of wins along the way.” We also asked her about the season so far. Hernke noted, “The season is going well so far, with our record at 3-5-2. We’ve had some close games that didn’t turn out in our favor. As of right now, we have 4 games left in the season, and then we will see where playoffs take us!” The Bombers have continuously grown mentally and physically with each game that passes. Hernke also believes that the team has great chemistry, and that is noticeable when watching them play.
The Head Coach for girls’ soccer is Erika Schwede. This is her 6th year coaching, 4 of which have been as head coach. When asked about the biggest improvement the team has made so far, Coach Schwede reflected on how the girls have improved on finishing at the goal. She stated, “We averaged 13 shots a game at the start of the season and less than 1 goal per game (the average of the four games was 0.8 goals/game); whereas in the last four games we have played, we have averaged 18.8 shots per game with an average of 3.5 goals per game. Meaning we have just been taking more shots and scoring more recently.” Along with this, Schwede also highlighted how the communication and movement of the ball have improved immensely. It’s clear that Schwede enjoys coaching girls’ soccer. “The girls on this team from all schools (Cannon/Randolph/Goodhue) are so dedicated to the program and improving with each day that passes. I really couldn’t be more proud to be their coach,” stated Coach Schwede.
The Cannon Falls Girls Soccer team has grown so much throughout this season so far. The team includes people from Cannon Falls, Randolph, and Goodhue. For many kids on this team, it is their first time playing soccer but many have improved so much in the season so far. The Bombers and all the fans are excited to see where the rest of the season takes them.
