As the middle of the season rolls around, the weightlifting team has seen leaps and bounds of progress. With two senior captains representing impeccable leadership, this team was guaranteed to lift a heavy season.
To start the season, the girls and boys stayed home for their first meet in a duel against Kenyon Wanamingo back in December. Zane Beck, a varsity lifter, explained, “It was a very successful meet with multiple state records broken.” James Huseth set the JV 102 kg weight class state clean and jerk record. Furthermore, Senior Captain August Wagner set the varsity men’s clean and jerk state record and is close to breaking both of the school records of a 155 kg clean and jerk in addition to a 128 kg snatch as he chases his second state title.
Junior, Dana Barsness, has been a varsity lifter since her sophomore year. She is currently recovering from a shoulder injury and is going through physical therapy while also striving to become healthy once again. Luckily, the junior has already qualified for state. When asked what her next goal was for this season, Barsness responded, “to get first place at state… and try to qualify for nationals.” To qualify for nationals, the junior has to hit a total of 140 kg between clean and jerk and snatch to attend nationals in June of 2025.
Addison Miller is one of the team’s captains this year and hopes to qualify for state, which takes place on March 8th. To prepare for meets, Miller has been in the weight room lifting heavy in hopes of qualifying for state. Miller continued to go on, saying that many of her teammates have been doing the same.
Being deep into the season means the Bomber lifters have seen tremendous progress. So don’t “weight” around at home and miss the rest of the Bomber’s season, go and watch the next weightlifting meet to feel uplifted while showing Bomber pride.
