The seventh-grade baseball team worked hard in practice all season to perform their best during games. The players are very close with one another, which makes being on the team even more fun. One minute the dugout can be completely quiet, and the next everyone is laughing over something as simple as a teammate sneezing.
Teammate Eian Lisoff was voted the funniest player on the team and also most likely to forget his uniform or skip practice. Even though Eian is known as the team clown, he is also a strong baserunner. One of his best moments this season was hitting an inside-the-park home run against Goodhue.
After talking with the team, most players said their favorite games of the season were against Zumbrota-Mazeppa. Even though they dropped the first game 8-10, they bounced back and won the second game 3-2. In the first game, Tim Lorentz, Andy Olson, and Lucas Meyers all took turns pitching and combined for nine strikeouts over five innings. On offense, Jack Nelson led the way with two hits in three at-bats. As a team, they also drew 14 walks and stole nine bases.
In the second game, Alex Olson and Eastin Marking were on the mound for the Bombers. Together, they allowed only four hits and recorded two strikeouts across three innings. Offensively, Avery Wetterlund came through with the big moment of the game, hitting an RBI double that drove in the winning run. The team also added eight walks and stole seven bases.
Even though the team wasn’t too thrilled with how the spring season started, they are still hopeful about doing better in the already started summer league. Looking back on the season, teammate Andy Olson said, “We started off not so strong, but worked really hard to end at a good point.” Other players on the team would agree that the hard work paid off and helped them improve throughout the season.
Coach Dylan Salley was very complimentary about his team. “Baseball seasons aren’t just measured by wins and losses – they’re measured by memories. This team played hard, played together, and most importantly, had fun every step of the way. From playing some great baseball, to earning a handful of trips to Dairy-Inn, and making plenty of memories in between, this group made the season something special. I’m proud of every player for their effort, attitude, and heart that they brought to the field all season long. Hopefully they learned a couple things about the game, their teammates, their attitude/mindset, and ultimately what it’s like to grow up in a well respected baseball town and program”.
Overall, the season showed how much the team grew both in skill and as a group. From close games to strong individual performances, the Bombers learned how to work together and push through challenges. Even more importantly, they built friendships and memories that made the season meaningful, no matter what the final record was.
