The Cannon Falls Bombers Track and Field team is hitting its stride as the 2024 season enters the home stretch. With strong showings across events, a close-knit team culture, and postseason goals in sight, the Bombers are gearing up for an exciting finish.
Junior Chloe Merchlewitz highlights what makes this season so special: “My favorite part about track is the people,” she said. That sense of community and team support has played a key role in the Bomber’s ongoing success. Whether it’s cheering from the sidelines or pushing each other during practice, the bond between athletes fuels both morale and performance.
Of course, the season hasn’t been without its challenges. This spring has brought intense heat and sunshine to many meets. Junior Torin Strecker noted, “The most challenging part about track this season is the heat in the blistering sun.” Despite the weather, the Bombers have shown resilience and determination, staying focused on their goals while adapting to the intense sunburns.
Among the many student-athletes working toward a strong postseason is Junior Kiley Jeppeson, who has her sights set on discus. “My goal for sections is to make finals for discus,” she noted. With focused training and a competitive mindset, she and many of her teammates are preparing to peak at just the right time.
This year, the throwers for the Bombers have been very successful. Zane Beck is among the throwers for the Bombers and explained that he is part of the “top three throwers from Cannon Falls in the past 15 years.” Filing below Beck’s first place spot is junior Talant Rifenberick in 2nd place and in third place is freshman TJ Kyyra. Their collective performances will be noted for years to come whilst inspiring teammates and opponents to beat their triad of records.
The Bombers will head on to the Subsection meet on May 21st, followed by the Section meet on May 27th and 29th. But before those section meets come, the HVL conference meet will take place, which many of the athletes are looking forward to competing at as they see their fans come and cheer them on. Anything can happen at these crucial events, but one thing is for sure: the future looks bright for Cannon Falls Track and Field.
