As the wrestling season heats up, the Cannon Falls Bombers are focused and working hard. There are many returning wrestlers but also a few newcomers, they have all shown determination and willingness to improve throughout the season.
The team started off their season with a quad match at St. Clair and have had many other challenging matches throughout their season. Many wrestlers are hoping to secure a spot at sections and ultimately, this year’s State Tournament, which is hosted at the Xcel Energy Center.
There have been many wrestlers this season who have hit important milestones in their careers: Sophomore Griffin Peterson recently earned his 75th career win and 25 career pins, Sophomore Caiden Walrod earned his 50th varsity career win and 25 career pins, and many others on the team also achieved monumental goals.
Sophomore wrestler Adam Parish who recently celebrated his 100th Varsity win explained how he feels the season is going for him, “I had a rocky start but now have been feeling better and getting a lot of big wins” he stated. Parish’s goal this season is to win sections and ultimately place in the top four at State. He believes his coaches have a considerable impact on his success because they are motivating while also giving him tips on ways to improve.
This year’s captains are Parish and teammates Jonathan Opelt and Tristian Zingler from Randolph. Griffin Peterson explains how there are a lot of returning wrestlers but also new ones. This year’s Varsity and Junior Varsity team consists of 21 wrestlers and three seniors from Cannon Falls. Although the team has an array of different ages, everyone supports each other. When asked what his favorite memory of wrestling was, Junior wrestler Dylan Menge said “Going out to eat with the team after tournaments.” Menge’s response shows that they have great team chemistry.
The Bombers will be competing in their last regular season home meet while also celebrating senior night on February 6th, with sections soon to follow. The team is working hard and individuals are hoping to secure a spot in the State tournament.
