Planetside: Game Review
The Lantern’s first game review
March 9, 2014
With guns blazing, tanks roaring, and laser rounds whizzing by, Planetside 2 meets all the criteria for a fast-paced, action-packed escapade. Since its release in June of 2011, PlanetSide 2 has evolved into a very successful first person shooter(FPS) war/combat simulator. PlanetSide 2 sports the animation and graphical quality expected from most video games today. The game shows its quality very well through its player animations. The hefty tank like player class called the Heavy Assault seemed to show its gross weight and mechanical construction very well through its jogging and running animations. Unfortunately, there are a few issues with the game that are not related to the game’s build quality.
Bottom line is, this game can get very boring very quickly. With each of the three maps being much larger than most FPS games, battles are often too large to handle or simply non-existent in some regions of the map. One way to get around this dilemma is to form a squad with some friends. When battles are lost (and they will be) and the going gets boring, strategizing or opting for irelevent anecdotes is the best way to keep from losing interest too quickly.
Fortunately for PlanetSide, it is a well made game with a surprising value for money. For just zero dollars, the average gamer can receive hours of fun gameplay with friends. Despite flaunting great multiplayer gameplay and quality game design, PlanetSide 2 has remained a free-to-play game. Of course there are some ways the game tries to squeeze some money from the player but this game can be enjoyed to its fullest without spending a dime. Overall this game is worth checking out, updates are fairly constant and the price is unbeatable.
