The boy’s basketball’s season is back in action after their first game December 4th against La Crescent, jumpstarting a long and successful season. The roster has many younger athletes, including two sophomore starters Aiden Johnson and Dylan Banks. Although the team is young, the diligence and dedication of the young players is shown on the court and they play a pivotal role in guiding the team to victory. “My role on the team is to help motivate and encourage my teammates,” says sophomore Aiden Johnson. “I contribute on the court by rebounding and scoring.”

Toward the beginning of the season, the Bombers were struggling to decipher how to work and play together. After asking what the most challenging part of the season so far has been, junior Bryce Peer explains, “The beginning of the season. It was a new team, so we had to get used to playing together. It took a lot of practice, but we are now learning how to play as a team and we are making huge improvements.” The boys’ season took a drastic turn after the win over Grand Meadow on December 29th, with an impressive score of 73-40. Commencing a winning streak, the Bombers began to see sucess, beating the Kasson Komets 67-47 , Rochester Lourdes 65-55, St Charles 87-42, Doyer-Eyota 75-63, and Cotter/Hope Lutheran 62-42, setting a previous record of 0-6 to an improved 5-8.

Battling Zumbrota-Mazeppa on Tuesday night, the Bombers put up a exceptional fight. After a phenomenal buzzer shot by Sophomore Dylan Banks, the Cougars had an initial lead of 29-23. The Bombers held slight leads in the second half, but lost in the final minutes of the game, ending with a close score of 47-52. Junior Tyler Johnston led the team with 10 points, and Sophomores Dylan Banks and Aiden Johnson had 9 points each. Junior Tyler Johnston expressed his high expectations for the remainder of the season, “I am excited to see how this team progresses and where the rest of this season takes us.”

The boys’ basketball’s upcoming games are January 25th against the Goodhue Wildcats and home on January 27th against the Lake City Tigers. The boys hope to continue seeing advancements in their records and skills for the rest of the season.
