The Bombers are up 45-44 with 13 seconds left on the clock. It’s a Friday night and the gym is packed as the boys are playing the Stewartville Tigers– a similar record team. Tigers have the ball and all they need is one shot to win, but the Bombers aren’t going to let that happen. Stewartville inbounds the ball, but Abram Tennessen gets a steal to secure the victory.
The 2024-2025 Boys Bomber Basketball team has had a strong start with an overall record of 15-3. Each week, the boys are in the gym to progressively grow their skills and IQ in the game. Their hard work continues to show in each game they compete in.
Senior Jack Meyers believes their most competitive game so far has been against the Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars, only losing by 2 points. Meyers says, “We did not play defense or shoot the ball well in that game.” Meyers plays a big role on the team, and on Saturday, January 25th he came down with a high ankle sprain while playing the Lewiston-Altura Cardinals. However, Meyers is hopeful for a smooth recovery. The game against the Cardinals unfortunately resulted in one of the Bombers few losses with a final score of 79-96.
When Meyers was asked what the biggest challenge will be when entering the postseason, he explained that they will need to take every game seriously and play defense the best they can. He added, “We also need to communicate better than we have been.” Yet, Meyers has high hopes for the postseason as it quickly approaches.
Junior Abram Tennessen expressed that one of the team’s greatest strengths is shooting the ball, while improving their defense is something they could work on. This adds onto Meyers explaining that defense will be a key factor in the postseason for the Bombers.
In the next few weeks, the Bombers will face the Kasson-Mantorville Komets at home on Tuesday, February 4th and head to Rochester to take on the Lourdes on Friday, February 7th. The Bombers will begin playoffs at the end of February.
