Bombers Wrestling Looks to Make History This Year

The 2013-14 Cannon Falls wrestling team hopes to start a new tradition this year. While the team has had success in gaining recognition at individual state, most notably Clay Broze’s state title last year, the Bomber wrestling program has yet to reach state as a team. However, this years team might have what it takes to break that barrier. With four returning state participants –Broze, Paul Fitterer, Ryan Epps and Connor Rohr– the team is primed for a run at state. In the way of the Bombers’ date with destiny this year is Kasson-Mantorville, which defeated Cannon Falls in the championship match at team sections last year. K-M is ranked 3rd in the Guillotine Class AA High School rankings and will be an admirable foe for the 8th ranked Bombers this year in the battle for a section title. Senior Derek Johnson, a certifiable veteran on the team, believes that the Bombers are just as good as the Komets of Kasson-Mantorville and have a great shot at making history this year.

“We have a lot of returning seniors this year and I think that we have the experience that we’ve lacked in previous years,” Johnson said. The Bombers certainly have the talent and experience to make some noise this year and finally claim a section title that has been eluding them all these years. The Bombers began the season last Friday on the road, where they lost to Zumbrota. Over the weekend they traveled to New Prague for a tournament and placed second, going 3-1 over the course of the day. The Bombers beat Sibley East, St. Peter and Waseca and lost to New Prague.
