The Cannon Falls Boys and Girls Golf teams have started their seasons this past week. The girls began practicing at an indoor facility, working on and improving their swings. The boys began practicing elsewhere on a golf simulator the simulator helps the players perfect their swings so they can reach their goals they have set for the rest of the season. The coaches for the girls team this season are Nick Tennessen and Katie Theilbar, while the boys head coach is Doug Rechtzigel. Players from both teams have set personal goals for themselves that they are hoping to reach them by the end of the season.
Livia Tennessen is a sophomore for the Cannon Falls Girls Golf Team. When asked about her favorite part of golf, Tennessen stated, “My favorite part of golf is being able to make friends with many girls outside of Cannon Falls.” She emphasized that she has become very close to many people from surrounding towns. She was also asked about what a day looks like at practice to which she answered, “At practice we go to the range to work on our swings and work on our putting on the green. Most days we go out on the course to play a round to see what scores we get as well.”
Nick Tennessen is one of the coaches this season for the girls golf team, along with Katie Theilbar. He shared his goal for all of the players this season: to set new personal bests for scores during a meet. Another one of his goals is for everyone to be able to compete as a “team” for all of the meets this season. Golf seems like it may be a very individual sport, but many aspects are team-like as well. Coach Tennessen explained where he thinks the team needs the most improvement. “Our team may need the most improvement on the mental side of the game. Not letting bad shots get us down, but knowing how to recover from it on the next shot.”
Andrew McGeough, a junior on the Cannon Falls Boys Golf Team, expressed that he has set some personal goals for himself that he is hoping to meet and exceed in this upcoming season. Those goals include breaking the 80 shot mark at a meet and going to state. The golf team spends lots of time out on the course every day in the hopes of improving their swing and being able to lower their score so they have the opportunity to make it further into the postseason. McGeough explained that what he is most looking forward to this season is the trip the team takes up north to the Quarry Golf Course.
Both teams continue to persevere through any and all challenges that come their way. With their first meet just a couple weeks away the teams work hard everyday inside and outside of practice so they can start the season off strong. Both teams have set their goals that they are hoping to achieve in the upcoming season. Some of those include improving their swing, beating their personal records, and even making it to the state tournament.
