There are many classes offered at Cannon Falls High School. Three of these classes, Language Arts 10, Science Fiction Literature, and Novels, are taught by the same teacher, Mrs. Fransen. Many students have enjoyed her classes as they oftentimes get to have fun while doing their work. However, she was only a temporary teacher. Initially, Mrs. Fransen was specifically hired to replace Mrs. Schwarz who was gone on maternity leave for the year. And now, Mrs. Schwarz is planning to come back next year. Before knowing for sure Mrs. Schwarz was coming back, there was speculation going around the school.
Mrs. Schwarz had left on maternity leave before the beginning of the school year, leaving Mrs. Fransen to fill her role. “ I had a baby in June and I wanted to spend more time with my kiddos without worrying about taking time off for doctor’s appointments, sickness, and family trips.” Halfway through the school year, many students were unsure if Mrs. Schwarz was planning to come back. By then, Mrs. Schwarz hadn’t officially told the school she was going to return. Either she would come back next year or leave and focus on being a stay-at-home mom. By late spring, however, Mrs. Schwarz had her decision. She would come back as an English teacher next year. Many students are excited to her come back, but will also miss Mrs. Fransen. Since Mrs. Schwarz will be coming back, this means Mrs. Fransen doesn’t have to cover for her anymore and will leave instead.
Mrs. Fransen knew her job was to cover for Mrs. Schwarz and would leave if she came back. However, after having been here for a year, Mrs. Fransen grew to love her job. “I am very sad about leaving CFHS. I love it here! The staff, the students, the community… it really is the best of the best.” Now that Mrs. Schwarz will be coming back, Mrs. Fransen will also have to find a new place to work. “As of now, I have no plans. I am continuing to look at what my opinions are.” Although sad about leaving the school and still looking for a new place to work, Mrs. Fransen is hopeful that she might be able to come back in the future. “I hope to find my way back here one day.”
Over fifty classes are offered at Cannon Falls High School, giving the students a variety of subjects to choose from. Among these three are taught by Mrs. Fransen. Now that Mrs. Schwarz is coming back from maternity leave, she will return to her old job next year. However, this does mean Mrs. Fransen, who was originally hired to cover for Mrs. Schwarz, will have to leave. The students and staff will be sad to see Mrs. Fransen go but are happy to welcome Mrs. Schwarz back with open arms.
