The film, Moana, represented determination and willpower. It also showed a lot of teamwork. When it was released, Moana was an instant hit. Now, there is a sequel to the famous movie. Some people might be watching Moana 2 because they saw the first movie, while others might watch it because they strive to be like a character in it. Whatever the purpose, many were excited to watch due to the teaser. Many believed based on the teaser, that it was going to be an inspiring story.
Moana 2 is a Disney sequel that was released on November 27, 2024. Moana 2 is an adventure movie that continues from the first film, Moana. Moana 2 came out three years after the original. In this story, Moana is trying to break another curse: The Curse of Nalo. The Curse of Nalo essentially isolates other islands, making it almost impossible to see other people or tribes. Now, Moana is searching for the mystical island of Motufetu, which will break the curse and unite the isolated islands. And this time, Moana has her own crew of wavefinders picked by Moana herself. Wave finding is an ancient Polynesian practice of navigating the ocean using deep knowledge, and intense observation of the sky and water.
Moana 2 is predicted to leave theaters in February or March of 2025 and will be available on Disney+ and other platforms. Moana 2 cost about one hundred fifty million dollars to make. So far, the total income of Moana 2 is about seven hundred twenty-eight million dollars. The predicted final number made would be about a billion. In contrast, the first Moana movie made about $687.2 million.
Avery Wetterlund is one of the millions of people who were able to go see Moana 2 in theaters. He thinks that the second movie is better than the first. “One of the main things I would change is the thunder god.” When Wetterlund was asked about their favorite and least favorite characters he said: “My favorite character would be Maui, while my least favorite is Moana.” Wetterlund said that he does not have a specific favorite part while Anya Nygaard does. “My favorite part would be when Moana goes back home to reunite with her little sister,” which is a pretty moving part of the movie.
Nygaard has also seen Moana 2 but she thinks the first is better, saying “The first one for sure.” Nygaard’s favorite character is Maui, just like Wetterlund. Although both like Maui more, Moana is found to be more favorable by others. When Nygaard was asked who her least favorite character was she answered very confidently “Loto,” who designs and maintains the boat. The one thing Nygaard would like to change about the movie would be the music. If Nygaard could choose to be one character, it would be “the little girl, Moana’s sister.”
There might be a few parts that could have been better but the movie had its moments. Moana 2 had a very heartfelt plot and a good ending. Disney was originally going to produce a Moana live-action in 2025 but at one point it got delayed to July 10th, 2026. So far, there is no final announcement of a production for a Moana 3. Moana 2 has covered many aspects: friendship, teamwork, family, and companionship. It’s no wonder many little kids strive to be just like Maui and Moana.
