It’s the the start of another baseball season in the splendid town of Cannon Falls. As the boys of summer lace up their cleats and take some cuts in the cages, the school is buzzing with excitement over the new year. After having a lot of success last year, the Bombers are looking to take the conference and state by storm. This year, the Bombers have ten seniors who all will contribute and had strong seasons last year. Two seniors, who have devoted a lot of time to the program and have had successful careers so far, were announced captains. Jake Christenson and Carlton Lindow are the captains of the 2017 Bomber baseball team. The team’s goals are very defined this year with the biggest goal they want to achieve being a state title.

The Bombers traveled down to Goodhue for their first game of the year. It was a matter of pitching for the majority of the game with Andrew Egge and Jared Andersen pounding the zone with strikes. The game was flying along until the Bombers decided to start a rally in the top of the seventh inning, scoring six runs easily. The Bombers sealed their first win of the season, 8-3. After Goodhue, the team went to Kasson, which proved to be a tough game. Their pitcher only gave up one hit and struck out ten of the Bombers. Kasson took the game with a score of 5-0.

The Bomber’s offense hadn’t seemed to get into the swing of things until they faced Stewartville. They blasted the Tigers out of the water with an astounding 12-3 win. It seemed the bats had now came alive as the season was moving on. The hot offense kept rolling into their first game at home against the Byron Bears. It was another blowout win for the Bombers with the score of 10-0. Max Bowen pitched well that game, giving up no runs.

Up next after the Byron game were the competitive Kenyon Knights, who always play the Bombers tough. Just like the Goodhue game, the Bombers pitched very well but didn’t produce offensively until late in the game. They eventually scored eight runs on a lot of errors made by the Knights. The final score was 8-3. Andrew Egge pitched through some rigorous innings and proved to be the winner of the game. After Kenyon came a double header against Zumbrota. The Bomber’s offense, like usual, swept Zumbrota with the first game ending 11-6 and the second finishing 8-5. Their overall record to this point is 6-1 and the offense stays scorching hot. The Bomber’s next game is Tuesday in Belle Plaine at 7:30 p.m. It’s still early in the season, but the boys are looking like they are on the way to achieving their goal.
