CFHS grad Emi Trost places in NCAA tournament
“…the highest UMD girl’s cross country team [that] has ever placed in history!” The girls were overjoyed at being the top dogs in the nation. “We were ranked third coming into the race so we were shooting for first, but were extremely happy with our finish.” University of Minnesota Duluth’s women’s cross country competed December 6th at Louisville, Kentucky for the NCAA championship race. After winning conference, sections, and state one may wonder what roadrunner and recent CFHS graduate Emi Trost could possibly do next to add to her astonishing accomplishments in the cross country world. Roadrunner, Emi Trost has now been working at a new caliber and it shows in the teams results. “We got third!”, Trost exclaimed. Trost and three of her teammates earned the title of “All American”, which means that each girl had to place in the top 40 in the nation of speedsters. Individually, Emi placed 18th, which solidified a spot to be All American. “As a freshmen I was very happy with my individual place,” (Trost). The girls ran a 6k for their race. Although it may seem like this was a walk in the park, the UMD dogs dealt with tough conditions.
“It was the muddiest course I have ever ran on. It had rained the whole week prior to the race, so we had tiny ponds and deep mud to run through.” Although the conditions were tough that didn’t stop the dogs from tearing it up. When asked about the impact of her teammates Trost quotes, “When they are by my side I know that together we can do anything!” The team is very close knit and Trost says, “ A team of best friends is unstoppable!” That is most certainly for the UMD cross country girls. As they race towards the starting line of a new season the whole cross country world will know to prepare to run against the speedy bulldogs.
