Satire weak
The Lantern features a week of satire for its readers
The Onion is sometimes unbelievable but very entertaining to read, so that’s why the Lantern is introducing the same concept. Starting this week, there will be articles coming out that add humor to real world problems. This type of writing is called satire. The purpose is to add humor to serious topics in order to help the readers understand how big of a problem it is. Satire articles are not only fun to read, but they are also fun to write. Writers can choose any topic in the world that they want, whether they like or dislike it. They can choose any angle to write about this topic.
Becca Benson, a senior, who is leading the satire articles says, “Satire combines the best of both worlds of writing by delivering information and entertainment simultaneously.” These satire articles will hopefully bring in even more Lantern readers because of the personal humorous touch the authors put into them. When they are writing the satire articles, it will take a lot of intelligence and thought to produce a memorable article. “Personally, as someone who wants to pursue comedy as a career and just loves writing in general, learning how to write satire affected all of my work, humorless or not. Figuring out the subtlety of humor in written word can be applied to anything. Pretty much any piece of writing can be made even more readable and memorable by injecting a little humor and personal voice into it,” Becca adds. Satire articles can be written by anyone in the school, even if they are not on the Lantern. If any writers have questions about creating an article, contact Becca at her email [email protected].
