One point at a time
The Cannon Falls Bombers tennis team had a great start to their season.
On August 15, the Bomber girls’ tennis team had their official start to the 2022 season. They were super excited to see what their team would be able to accomplish this year. After many long, hard, tiring practices to finally get in the groove of things again, the girls had their first match on August 23rd against Tri-City United/Cleveland Co-op with a scoring win of 5-2. So far, the Bomber tennis team has a record of 4-4-0. They have worked very hard to maintain this record and will continue to do so. There have been a couple of tough matches for the Bombers against Stewartville and Simley, scoring 1-6 for both. Although, that didn’t stop them. The Bomber girls’ most recent game was on October 4th against Lake City ending with a big win of 6-1.
The 2022 Bomber Tennis team has four seniors this year and is led by two captains, Claire Dicke and Lauren Ritz. Both Dicke and Ritz shared they are expecting the season to go really well for them. Ritz has faith in her teammates as she explained, “We have a young team this year, but everyone is working hard in their positions so we definitely have a shot at some good wins in the next couple of weeks.” Dicke added, “We have very good team chemistry, we all get along very well, and make a lot of jokes.” Ritz continued, “One of the things I think our team needs to work on is winning close points and trying to pull out some of the closest matches.”
The Bomber Girls Tennis team is looking forward to playing their next match on Monday, October 10th for their team sections at Rochester Athletic Club. Following this match, the girls will enter individual sections. Claire Dicke explained, “Lourdes is our biggest rival this year” as they will possibly see them at sections on Monday. The Bomber Tennis team would appreciate spectators coming out and supporting them when they get the chance. Go Bombers!
