Sabrina Carpenter — a famous singer and actress — has risen in popularity with her newly released album Short n’ Sweet. This is Carpenter’s sixth album, as her first album came out in 2014 entitled “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying.” Carpenter’s new album was released on August 23, 2024, with 12 new songs. Short n’ Sweet has been making its way up the music charts with all 12 songs on the Hot 100. “Please Please Please”, Carpenter’s second single from her album, has taken No.1 on the charts. “Espresso” and “Taste”, her first and third singles, also received much recognition from fans. Her songs have been used for trends on TikTok, a well-known social media platform owned by a Chinese company named ByteDance. Carpenter started her tour across America on September 23, in Columbus, Ohio. On October 14, she’ll be stopping in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Short n’ Sweet focuses on how Carpenter’s romantic relationships have affected her emotionally. While she adds humor within parts of the lyrics and moods of her songs, Carpenter hides her heartbreak and betrayal underneath. Some claim that a few of her songs are based on her short-term relationship with singer Shawn Mendes. “Taste” is one of those songs, as it talks about an ex-lover and his new love. Carpenter does a nice job of expressing each feeling she felt through her songs, from being embarrassed, experiencing heartbreak, and struggling with relationship issues, to feeling confident. Many girls around her age and younger find it easy to relate to Carpenter and find comfort in her songs.
There are mixed reviews about Carpenter’s new album though, as some hate it and others love it. An article from Carroll News written on September 5, by Anna Maxwell, an Arts and Life Editor, said she doesn’t agree that Short n’ Sweet is a “no skip album” but most of the songs are addicting. Others say that a few of her songs sound well, but not all of them are great or would be considered the best on the album. Another article from The Daily Tar Heel, published August 29, by Marisa Rosa, felt the same way as Maxwell but found the album “Incredibly well-rounded.” Rosa also noted how Carpenter “embraces sexuality in ways that female artists are steered from.” Fan or not Carpenter’s songs can hook anyone with their catchy beats and moods.
Although there seem to be many mixed reviews about Short n’ Sweet, Carpenter has created a catchy and embracing album. “Please Please Please” and “Espresso” hit the album off. “Taste” also helped launch the album into popularity because of the collaboration with the famous actress, Jenna Ortega, in the music video on YouTube, which has hit about 47 million views. Carpenter still has a large journey around America, and her songs are still trending on TikTok and other social media platforms. Sabrina Carpenter has sculpted a beautiful album with deep feelings and emotion mixed with humor and comfort.
