It was that time of year again, just last week. Homecoming is a fan favorite for many of the students at Cannon Falls, including Ruby Kyyra, an 8th grader who says, “Homecoming is my favorite part of the school year because of all the fun festivities.”
Some of the homecoming festivities included High School Powderpuff on the 7th, coronation on the 8th (high school only), Varsity volleyball game on the 8th, the Varsity football game on the 12th, and the homecoming dance on the 13th. Also, the annual dress-up days for the week included Post Party Pjs on Monday, Red carpet on Tuesday, Stunt double day on Wednesday, Fav star on Thursday, and Bomber day on Friday.
Many students looked forward to homecoming week for many reasons. “I like how everybody gets so excited, and it’s something to look forward to at the start of the school year,” says 8th grader Lydia Samuelson, talking about why she likes homecoming so much. This year’s homecoming takes place on Friday, the 12th, which is a PLC early release. On that day, you can expect lots of bomber gear around the school, the pep fest, and lots of fun activities and smiles. Last year’s pep fest had multiple relay races and games, and a musical chair/scavenger hunt to end it off.
For the 6th graders, homecoming looked a little different this year. 6th grader, Easton Hanson, says, “Homecoming in middle school is definitely different from elementary school. You get included a lot more, and there are more activities to do.” He says his favorite part was the dress-up days, with his favorite one being twin day. In a recent poll with the middle schoolers, about 63% said their favorite part about homecoming is the sports games, 17% said the dress-up days, and 18% said the pep fest.
No matter what activity is going on, homecoming has always brought smiles to people’s faces in the past, and it will continue to do so in the years to come. With all the games and fun activities during this year’s festive week, it surely brought joy to all the students of Cannon Falls.
