“Being a small town like us, it is amazing that we are giving away nearly $57,000 in scholarships, plus two large $100,000 scholarships.” After Mrs. Geese said this, the crowd roared and applauded during the Cannon Falls Awards Ceremony on March 18th.

The Awards Ceremony includes three main events: Scholarships to the seniors, noteworthy achievements in different sections (Social Studies, Sciences, etc.), and Academic Excellence (Scoring a 3.33 GPA or higher).

Scholarships that are given away come in many different shapes and sizes. Some come from the Cannon Cruisers Car Club of $500 to Matt Moskal, a Cannon Eye Clinic Scholarship of $1,000 to both Luke Lamoore and Michael Monson, and a new award from the Bomber Dance Team Parent Association of $500 to Mckenna Bauer. Another great scholarship came from the Wild Turkey Federation of $750 to Taylor Eddie.

As more and more awards were handed, people started realizing that this was a tough year for scholarship selections, due to the amount of amazing students at Cannon Falls. There were multiple ties for scholarships, one was for the #43 Jason Provost Scholarship of $500 to both Gabe Hall and Kyler Banks. Also for the large Gemini Scholarship award of $100,000, which is given to students going to a college in the top 30 of the nation, was accepted by Bjorn Pearson and Matt Moskal.

Again, Cannon Falls shined as two students in particular, Emma Thomley and Bjorn Pearson, were both selected for the Cannon Falls Hall of Fame. Both were also sections champions of the AAA (Athletics, Activities, Academics) award, which both promote students who are well rounded. Bjorn was a US presidential scholar, an award given to only 34,000 students who scored well on the ACT.

Overall it was a good year for Cannon Falls, with many scholarships given out. “For a small town, this is really impressive that we have so many good students that exceed at whatever they do.” Said Sylvia Chlopeck, grandmother of one of the students.
