Cannon Falls is no stranger to hosting significant events that often fly under the radar. One of these is the Taylor Swift concert that occurred on Thursday, March 21st, 2024 on the school roof. Performing to a record-breaking audience of 1 person, Swift made a special extension to her famed Eras tour to showcase her musical abilities in Cannon Falls.
The one ticketed attendee to her concert was, of course, Charles Fick, who said the following about her show: “Hey guys, it’s me, Charles Fick. Oh, you want me to yap about the show? Well, it was okay, but I think it could have used more time. I came because I wanted to skip the whole day, but she didn’t have enough music and I still had to go to Language Arts.” Adding on to his review, he commented that he wasn’t “a fan” of Swift’s songs, and admitted to “shaking it off” to full enthusiasm during her shaky performance of her hit song. Putting all that aside, he gave the show 3 stars out of 5, but said “most of that was getting to skip the Health test.”
Not everyone thought so fondly of the show, however. Many students and teachers alike didn’t appreciate the crane dropping Swift’s piano on the roof instead of lowering it gently. Also, during the show, many classrooms reported disruptions as sometimes stage props, personnel, and bowling balls would crash through the roof, causing multiple instances of damage. Those damages strained the district’s finances even further.
Despite what that portion of the school’s population thinks, Swift’s unplanned performance on the Cannon Falls High School’s roof was really not that bad. Her voice was a bit hoarse from the biting cold, and the atmosphere wasn’t quite all there, but it was a good way to skip school if anything. It’s safe to say, though, that this underreported event will not be happening again in the near future.
