CFHS welcomes new teacher Steven Strauss to the social studies department
Some people dream of traveling the world, others make it 15 miles to Cannon Falls. September 6th marked the first day of school for the 2016-2017 school year. With every new school year new, unfamiliar faces appear throughout the facility including: new students, teachers and foreign exchange students. This year, one of those new faces is a man by the name of Steven Strauss.
He came to Cannon Falls High School, having attended nearby Goodhue High School, where he competed against the Bombers, while playing 3rd base and pitching for the Wildcats’ baseball team. In addition to his high school baseball career, he also played amateur baseball for nearby teams. After high school, he attended Winona State University where he majored in Social Studies Teaching and went on to earn his Master’s degree in Sports Management. Being the sports fanatic that he is, Strauss also earned a minor in Coaching, and does have interest in coaching at Cannon Falls if the opportunity presents itself at the right time.
After receiving his degree, Strauss taught at Sebeka High School, in Sebeka, Minnesota before taking his next teaching job, at Cannon Falls High School. Miscellaneous items that Strauss enjoys include: reading, spending time with dogs, and sports. At just 27 years of age, Strauss is entering his 6th year of teaching and he has already head coached or assisted coached: a basketball team, baseball team, and softball team.
This year, Strauss is teaching the following classes: Human Geography, Psychology, 9th grade Civics, and 8th grade Global Studies. Liam Franken, a student in Human Geography says “Mr. Strauss has already had a positive impact on the learning environment.” Liam wasn’t the only one with positive remarks about Strauss, Tom Langfeldt another teacher in the Social Studies department said “He is a very knowledgeable and energetic individual, he was a great addition to the staff.” If you happen to see Mr. Strauss around the school, make sure to congratulate him, because on October 8th he got married!
