Onward is only one movie Jared McAdam believes in a must see.

Ever since the start of the “Stay at Home” order, people have been looking towards film and television to get them through quarantine. Thankfully, streaming sites like Netflix and Disney+ have put lots of new content on their services. Sorting through the new releases, I’ve found some shows that I thoroughly enjoy and recommend.

About a month ago I finished watching The Office for the first time and I couldn’t help but feel there was a giant hole left afterwards. I tried getting into multiple different shows to help fill that gap,but I just couldn’t find anything; then I found Community. The show was recently put on Netflix and features a lawyer who attends community college after it’s discovered he faked his degree. He meets new friends in his spanish class and decides to start a study group with them. However, they all turn out to be a little crazy. It’s a hilarious show about friendship and finding yourself in the craziest of places. The show consists of many stars, most notably a young Donald Glover (a.k.a Childish Gambino). The entire 6 seasons are on Netflix right now and I’d recommend all 110 episodes to anyone who loves The Office, searching for a similar show .

I thought it was a really great movie. I thought it was both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.”

— Rebecca Hein

Netflix isn’t the only service putting more exciting content on their site. Disney+ has put on many of their beloved T.V. shows and movies like Sonny with a Chance, Fish Hooks, and Frozen II. The one that has everyone buzzing right now though is the Pixar film Onward, a wondrous fantasy about two elf brothers on an epic quest to bring their father back. The film was never meant to hit Disney+ this early, but, due to a lackluster opening weekend and then the coronavirus outbreak resulting in the closure of theaters, Disney decided it would be best to put it on their streaming service. A junior, Rebecca Hein, had this to say about the Pixar fantasy: “I thought it was a really great movie. I thought it was both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.” As per usual with Pixar, it’s an emotional roller coaster filled with laughs, smiles, and tears. What Pixar pulled off was a true masterpiece. This movie is a must watch for anybody who loves animated media and enjoys a good tug at the heartstrings.

Streaming services have really stepped up their game this month. With the extension of the stay-at-home order until May 4th here in Minnesota, people are going to be looking for more and more shows to watch. Media provides an escape, even during pandemics. Hopefully, Community, Onward, and other new additions to streaming platforms will help everyone become a little more comfortable during these troubled times.
