The Bomber dance team continues progressing in full motion as they turn to their upcoming postseason. With many clean competition victories in their toolbelt, the girls are holding their heads high as they advance to compete in sections — with the goal of utter perfection.

Recently, the Bombers competed in an HVL conference competition at Goodhue High School. The dance team’s kick and jazz groups each received second place. Kendra Reed, a sophomore dancer, explained their desire for first-place glory every meet but “second place was a big achievement.”

Reed said she enjoys jazz. Compared to high kick, jazz incorporates salsa dancing; she favors it because jazz allows the girls to, “add our own style and twist to the dance.” Teammate Amera Wells — a fellow sophomore — agrees with Reed expressing that jazz is creative as the music is fun and upbeat. Both Reed and Wells shared jumps and turns to be the best aspect of jazz, instead of kicks.

As a team, the girls prioritize quality time together. They look to increase their chemistry, which is an essential factor when dancing with unity. Wells spoke of their team feeds as a “fun bonding experience,” after practices. During practices, they play engaging games such as charades, and simply get to know each other a little bit better each day through circle chats. Jointly, the girls lift each other up to make the season one to remember.

While the dance team is gearing up for sections, beginning February 11th, their coaches are actively working to finalize the dancer’s skills. Reed voiced practices consist of “repeated drilling and working out.” According to Reed, they spend an hour working out with various cardio exercises to remain strong during performances. They repeat and re-run components of their dance until they nail it. Ultimately, the girls need to appear as one when dancing; timing is a factor that must be mastered.

Before competition performances, the dancers do cheers to uplift attitudes, generate energy, and get into the right mindset. Wells highlighted a special chant they do before every performance, called “L fam,” which hypes up the team and creates excitement.

The Bomber dance team is eager about the upcoming Section Tournament. The team will compete next on February 11th at Lake City High School.
