After a strong regular season, the Bomber wrestling team aims to grasp what has eluded them for so long

Wrapping up the season with a 7-4 record in conference matches, the Cannon Falls Wrestling team finished 5th in the HVL and will head into the section tournament as a two-seed. The Bombers (18-6 overall) will look to dethrone last year’s section champ, and eventual state champion, Kasson-Mantorville. Currently ranked 5th in the state, Kasson boasted a perfect conference record of 11-0 this year. Kasson also has four top ranked wrestlers on their team. Not to be outdone, the Bombers have four top ranked wrestlers as well. Clay Broze, Derek Johnson, Paul Fitterer and Ryan Epps have all held on to their rankings from the beginning of the year. While we may be heading into a repeat of last year’s section title match between the Komets and Bombers, the Bomber wrestlers are careful not to overlook their other opponents.

Hopefully we’ll wrestle well enough to make it Saturday and then pull off a tough W

— Sterling Carlson

“Hopefully we’ll wrestle well enough to make it Saturday and then pull off a tough W,” says senior Sterling Carlson when asked of his expectations for the team come sections. Saturday the 15th is the day of the championship matchup while the first day of sections is on Thursday the 13th. If the Bombers were to win sections, it would be the first section title in the history of Cannon Falls Wrestling.
