Tough tennis, persevering participants

The Bomber tennis team is improving their mindset through tough matches.

As the fall leaves start to change colors and the weather begins to drop and get cooler, the 2023 Bomber Tennis season is in full swing since the start of the season in August. Considering last year’s team tended to be younger, they have gained an abundant amount of experience for this season. Starting off the season, the girl’s first HVL match took place on August 31st, 2023 with a big win of 4-3 against a competitive Lake City. After the first couple of weeks, the Bomber’s record now stands at 10-6 with nothing but growth to be seen since their first match.

Sophomore captain Josie Sjoquist expressed their season has been off to a great start so far. Each of the athletes has started to gain more confidence, which has helped them succeed in the close matches they have been a part of. Although each team has its weaknesses, Sjoquist described, “The biggest area for improvement is our attitudes during tough matches,” but further added mindset has been something they have been working on to improve recently.

Junior Clara Wilson shared she is looking forward to seeing her team support one another in sections as they currently are and have been throughout the season. When asked how the girls can take it to the next level she explained, “I think our team can take it to the next level by having more confidence.” Wilson stated they are still a young team, but they have proved themselves with their 10-6 record. Agreeing with Sjoquist, Wilson added, “I definitely think if we transition our attitudes from practice into our matches, we can do even better.” This positive outlook is sure to help the team to grow mentally stronger and become more competitive.

The Bombers will take on the Rochester Lourdes at 4:30 pm on October 3rd, 2023 at Rochester Lourdes High School, where the girls are hoping to take the win; Sjoquist claimed the Lourdes to be their strongest competition. Following that, the girls will play in the upcoming section tournament on October 5th, 2023. They appreciate the community’s support and would love to see a crowd to cheer them on.
