The Battle of Five Armies
The Lantern reviews the latest Hobbit movie
“I am Fire; I am Death…”. These words echo in ones mind even after the viewer has left the theater in eager expectation of the next installment of The Hobbit. From An Unexpected Journey to The Battle of Five Armies, Bilbo and the Dwarves have taken viewers for the ride of a lifetime. In the third and final film of The Hobbit trilogy, our small friends are forced to decide how they will face not only the feared dragon Smaug, but elves, orcs, and humans as well.
With the Elven armies massing at their door, the dwarves must make a difficult choice of whether to follow their king or protect their friends. Throughout the film Thorin personifies internal conflict, as his brethren must face the enemies that he has brought upon them. Even though Bilbo and the other Dwarves attempt to save Thorin from the war within, in the end the only one who can rescue the king under the mountain is himself. Through great personal strife, the Elves, Dwarves, Humans, and Eagles come together to face the oncoming storm of evil. Overall Director Peter Jackson has pulled together an incredible film to wrap up the beloved Hobbit trilogy. Jackson managed to smoothly incorporate CGI animation, a thrilling instrumental soundtrack, and an ending that will leave viewers with chills. This is added on to a mesmerizing performance by Martin Freeman. In the end a classic plot and great acting brought viewers to the end of The Hobbit, giving us one last glimpse of Middle Earth through the eyes of one little hobbit.
