Many people tune into The Grammys to see the costumes and the performances.

The Grammy Awards are awards presented by the Recording Academy. These are presented to recognize achievements in the musical industry. The trophy illustrates a gilded gramophone. The first ever Grammy Award ceremony was held on May 4, 1959, to honor musical accomplishments during 1958. It’s a new year, which means a new Grammys event is here. There were 23 performers this year, each bringing their own unique style of music. These are few of the most popular performances during the 2021 Grammys.

First, Harry Styles, wearing a leather suit with a feathery boa, sang “Watermelon Sugar,” the main single from his album Fine Line as his song choice. His background music included a drummer, guitarist, and a pianist with two backup singers. His performance started slow and calm, then hit hard as it neared the end. So, the audience has an idea of his range of ability: slow music to upbeat pop. Overall his performance was awesome with a great outfit and a great voice.

Second, BTS members performed. V, J-hope, Jimin, Suga, RM, Jin, and Jungkook made history as the first ever Korean group to perform at the Grammys. They sang Dynamite, a number-one single in the U.S.. Each member has their own lyrics to sing to show off individual talent. Then, they have some lyrics to sing as a group to show what they create when they sing together. Wearing bold suits, they danced and sang at the same time, which was a challenge. They gave an outstanding performance of singing and dancing.

Third, Taylor Swift sang a mashup of “August,” “Cardigan,” and “Willow,” from her newest albums, Folklore and Evermore for her performance. Wearing a long blue and white dress, she sang and played the guitar with her collaborators, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner. Her background scenery was a cabin in the woods. With awesome facial expressions, she sang with feelings. Her performance was pretty and her voice is soothing.

Finally, Billie Eilish sang Everything I Wanted. She wore a blue and green colored outfit with blue gloves. Billie Eilish sang on top of a dark blue car. Her background music included her brother, FINNEAS, playing the piano and a drummer. Her background theme was all green. Her voice was confident but soft at the same time. Billie Eilish’s performance was definitely unique — both the singing and the background.

There were many performances at the 2021 Grammys, these are the four that most people were looking forward to seeing. Other performers included Bad Bunny, Black Pumas, Cardi B, Dua Lipa, John Mayer, and fourteen more. History was made beyond the performances. Taylor Swift became the first woman to win three Album of the Year awards.  Billie Eilish won the Record of the Year award. H.E.R. won the Song of the Year, and finally, winning the best new artist award was Megan Thee Stallion. Beyoncé also made history as the most awarded woman at the Grammys with twenty-eight awards total.
