If someone was asked what the best written plays were of all time they would probably list a few written by famous playwrights, but most would forget the best playwright of all, AI. The CFHS spring play this year is a little different from any other play they have done in the past because it was written entirely by AI. Another thing that makes it different is this is the first year fourth and fifth graders are included in the spring play. Usually only CF middle and high school students can be included, so this is a big change. The shows were on May ninth, tenth, and eleventh.
Seventh grader, Tucker Nobach who played Jack, a character based on Jack and the Beanstalk says “If I could change one thing about the play I would probably change the way that things are said, it sounds kind of fake.” Afterwards he was asked if he wished there was more time to prepare and he responded “Yes, definitely. It was kinda put together real quick.” When asked how he feels about the play being written by AI he stated, “It’s definitely not what I would’ve liked. I wish it was at least written by an actual human.”
Seventh grader, Lillian Olund, an attendant of the play said “You could tell in some parts but I was impressed about how it sounded mostly human. ” In response to being asked about the play being written by AI. When questioned about how she felt about the fourth and fifth graders being included she said, “I think they made it more interesting and they had some funny lines.” She said a lot of the lines sounded “unnatural but overall, it was pretty good.”
Overall, most think it wasn’t a great idea to use AI for the play, or at least not for the whole thing. The fourth and fifth graders were an interesting change also. They mostly played the pigs and ginger bread men. Most people didn’t love how things were said in the play saying it sounded “fake” or “unnatural.” This year’s play was different from most, being written by AI and including the fourth and fifth graders, but overall it was a good production, even with the ups and downs.
