From humid air and temperatures in the 90s one week, to snow and chilly 30-degree weather the next, the Cannon Falls boys and girls track team has experienced it all. Nevertheless, the Bomber track stars are overcoming the unpredictable weather and still putting up astounding times—some are even personal records—out on the track.

The girls track season is off to a strong start and is led by captains Lydia Pedersen and Parker Gill.

Early into the season, junior and sprinter Evie Nelson is already improving her times. Nelson has a new personal record for her 200-meter dash and new season records for her 100-meter hurdles and her 300-meter hurdles. Nelson has also recently been a new member of the 4×200 team.

On the track team since sixth grade, Addison Richter throws shot put and discus. Richter’s main goal for this season is to “help new people learn and grow.” She also wants to focus on having fun.

Senior and Captain Gill works diligently on her sixth year of track. She says her favorite event to compete in is long jump because she “loves the feeling of working hard.” She also loves to see herself improve. Gill’s other events are 100-meter and 200-meter dash, and she plans to return to working hard at high jump later in the season.

Lastly, Gill said she is “excited to see where this season takes everyone as a team” and wants to see them reach their goals. Gill can’t wait to make new memories this season.

As far as the boys track team goes, they are witnessing a year of fewer participants, specifically with juniors and seniors. But this statistic hasn’t deterred the team yet— in fact, it has paved the way for underclassmen to become key competitors, such as Tysen Lind.

Although he loves to compete, Lind admits: “My favorite part about track is the practices and hanging out with my teammates and having a good time.” But Lind, a sophomore for the Bombers, has already performed monumentally in his events.

“I compete in long jump, 100-meter dash, and the 4×100,” Lind summarizes. In his first meet alone, Lind received first place in the 100-meter dash with a personal record of 11.81 seconds. In the long jump, he got third place with a distance of 17’ 6.5”.

When the boys track team participated in their second meet of the season, Lind only built off his numbers from his first meet. He recorded another personal record of 19’ 11.5” in the long jump, allowing him to secure first place. He also stayed steady with his time in the 100-meter dash finishing in 11.85 seconds. Lind emphasizes that one goal of his this year is to make it to state.

The Bombers have several meets remaining and will continue to emphasize the goal of improving their times.
