Marvel’s latest movie featuring a character of villainous origin, Venom 2 follows Eddie Brock and his alien sidekick.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage hit theaters on October 1st, 2021 and has left people wondering what this movie means for the future of Marvel cinema. In this Spider-Man villain sequel, actor Tom Hardy plays Eddie Brock and voices his CGI co-star Venom. The film follows the story of Eddie and his alien side-kick as they learn to work cohesively while fighting for their lives against super villain Cletus Kasady, played by Woody Harlson. The film was jam packed with heartwarming moments, a shocking post-credit scene, marvelous cinematography, and of course, a hungry symbiote just looking for a snack.

To kick off the movie, the chilling past of Cletus Kasady is told to the audience. After this slim villain origin story, the film switches to Eddie in a police station having an argument with Venom about appropriate behavior around others. This change of pace adds comedic relief to the suspenseful fight scenes that soon follow and provides a banterous backbone that holds the movie together. Another shift in mood in the movie occurs when Eddie meets with an ex-girlfriend who surprised him with an engagement to another man. Although Venom doesn’t seem very compassionate, he tries his best to comfort Eddie. Venom’s idea of sympathy involves offering to kill, and of course eat, whoever Eddie wants, which Eddie politely declines. So, instead of having a delicious, fleshy meal, Venom attempts to make a delectable breakfast, which ends up a sticky mess. As the movie goes on, Venom and Eddie begin to see eye-to-eye and work as a team. While things seem to have cooled down and gone back to normal by the end of the movie, an excellent Marvel post-credit scene throws the audience for a loop.

“The end-credit scene honestly really surprised me. I knew it was gonna have something to do with the new Spider-Man movie, but I wasn’t really sure what it would be. I wasn’t disappointed though,” agrees moviegoer Riley Keenan. As rumors continue to circulate the internet about the upcoming Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, the clip at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage provides an understanding as to how the two movies will connect. However, this short teaser wasn’t the only part worth seeing. The special effects and cinematography of the film brings the experience to a whole new level.

Venom, the alien amoeba in the movie, is obviously not real, however, the CGI used to bring him to life is flawlessly done. The giant extraterrestrial never looks phony and fits in seamlessly with the live action parts of the film. The use of different cinematic techniques also pulls the audience in. The gloomy look of the city that Eddie and Venom live in illustrates the feeling of fear and danger. Most of the scenes do not use bright lighting due to the tone of the film, however some the happier, playful scenes that occur between Eddie and Venom use a more yellow undertone to portray the good, comedic parts of the film. Without the tenacious work put into the production process, the movie would not have been nearly as entertaining.

While people debate what feature they should go see on the big screen next Venom: Let There Be Carnage is definitely worth consideration. It includes something for everyone; fight scenes, awkward compassion, impeccable cinematography, and a surprise ending. So, even if superhero films aren’t someone’s forte, moviegoers are sure to be entrapped in the cinematic web that is Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
