Winter has come, and everyone knows what that means — and so has wrestling season. The Bomber and Randolph wrestling team is back, and with seven seniors, it’s sure to be a good one.

To start the season, the boys and girls worked hard at all their practices to prepare for their upcoming matches. Many of the wrestlers knew they had to work hard to beat out their soon-to-be opponents. Junior Ethan Albers talked about how they focused on lots of conditioning to, “make sure that we don’t get tired during our matches.” He continued to say he believes they will only get better from here.

At the beginning of the season, the Bomber and Randolph wrestling team went against Shakopee — a good, high-ranked team. Though it did not go as well as the team had hoped, they learned what they had to do better in order to beat their opponents.

Since then, the team has been doing tremendous work to prepare for the other matches. They have done more conditioning and working on certain wrestling moves. These efforts showed as the wrestling team went undefeated at a weekend tournament in Saint Agnes against five different, good-skilled teams.

As the season progresses and heads into the second part of the season, the team has set some high goals for themselves and as a team. Senior Jacob Bigalk explained how they want over a .500 win rate as a team and, “to make it to the Civic Center for team sections.” A team that freshman Adam Parish is excited to wrestle this season is the Byron Bears. Parish talked about how close the match was last season, and he is excited to see that challenge again for him and his team.

Over the Christmas break, the wrestling team will go to La Crosse to participate in Bi-State. It will allow all the wrestlers to get better competition and experience a matchup against new opponents.

Overall, the season looks to be a good one. The boys and girls will continue to work hard to make it to the civic center one match and practice at a time. So, catch the next wrestling match and support your Bomber andRandolph wrestling team to victory!

Hi, this is my third year in the Torch/Lantern extracurricular. I was a writer and had two stories published, but I have switched to photographer because I find it easier than writing 350 words.
