Wrestling mat-ters
Wresting has begun and are very optimistic for their season.
High hopes, highlights, and high fives have been flowing from the Cannon Falls Bomber wrestling team this season. Every member of the team has one goal at the end of the year: wrestling in the state tournament. Though only two individuals, Cooper Peterson and Hayden Strain, advanced to state last year, the Bombers are optimistic about writing their team a ticket to the Target Center. The wrestling room is always filled with positive energy and ambition, and the team credits the solid leadership.
The captains consist of Chris Modrak, Peter Fitterrer, Erwin Strelow, and Cooper Peterson. “The leadership on this team is very strong and we have a lot of leaders who can push everyone in the right direction,” emphasized Peterson, who shared how important it is to have successful and supportive wrestlers as captains to rally around
Even though the team is chock-full of seasoned veterans, numerous young athletes are stepping up and making big contributions to the team to fill in for injuries. Freshman Riley Keenan has dominated in his first two varsity wrestling matches including one pin against Byron. Colten Black, an eighth grader, has also made his mark on varsity by winning his first match. Keenan commented on how much the captains have helped him along the way and made him feel comfortable during practices and matches.
Though the Bombers are 0-2 in their first duo meets, they are showing promising signs for the future. Their record looks to improve as they get some of the injured wrestlers back. The leaders have encouraged and pushed the team towards their goal. While underclassmen are making their mark at the varsity level and are planning to develop a powerful team in the years to come, the Bombers aim for a dominant finish to this season with successes at the state level.
