The Bomber wrestling team has proudly completed their 2023 season by placing 5th in team sections and sending two wrestlers to compete at the State Wrestling Tournament.

The Bombers skillfully wrestled at team sections against Lake City on February 16. Thanks to Sam Shepersky’s impressive pin (285 lbs), the Bombers won the tense match against Lake City with a 5-point lead — 34-29, and qualified for the second day of team sections on February 18, at the Mayo Civic Center. Other Bomber wins of the night were Adam Parish (106 lbs), Calvin Singewald (126 lbs), Jonathan Opelt (138 lbs), Colten Black (160 lbs), Kyle Erlanson (170 lbs), and Tristan Zingler (182 lbs).

On the second day of team sections, Black and Zingler won their matches, and the Bombers wrestled their best, but they lost to Kasson 9-63.

Both Singewald and Black qualified for the Individual State Tournament on March 2-4.

Singewald is proud to have met his goal for his junior wrestling season by “placing in state.” He finished 4th in the State Wrestling Tournament for the 126 lbs weight class. He explained that the State Wrestling Tournament was a cool experience, and he is happy that he wasn’t alone and had a qualifying teammate with him. As a junior, Singewald has now competed in the State Wrestling Tournament for three years; he is excited and looking forward to his senior wrestling season.

Wrestling at the state tournament was Black’s first time and he is happy that he could compete in it. When asked if he was content with how he finished at State, Black said, “When I won my true second match, I felt pretty good about it,” but he also said that he wishes he would’ve placed. Black is happy to have finished his senior wrestling season. He regrets not trying harder during his previous seasons, but he is glad he tried as hard as he did this season. Black is proud of how well the team did as a whole. He stated, “I’m happy that we made it to Rochester for team sections and I liked how a lot of us were wrestling.” He also mentioned that when they were there, the team behaved well and had fun.

Congratulations to the Bomber Wrestling Team on another successful season.
