All Hail King and Queen

On Monday, October 3rd, the yearly coronation took place at the Cannon Falls High School Auditorium.  Introducing this year’s Homecoming King and Queen- Mason Grimes and Taylor Simons. “I was really surprised,” comments King Grimes, “All week before coronation people were saying that I was going to win but I never really believed them, but when I did get the crown I was very happy.” Queen Taylor on the other hand, already had her eye on the prize. When asked what was going on in her head during the coronation, all she could think about was sitting on that throne.

The Royal Duo had some help though as campaigning was extensive throughout the  school. “Just being a nice guy kinda led me here,” commented Grimes, “but it helps when you have some friends who shout ‘vote for Mason!’ which took the pressure off of me for campaigning.” Little did she know, the Queen also had some campaigning happening. “Vote for Taylor!” Homecoming Princess Amanda Wulf would broadcast to all voters. “This would be such a special moment for her if she won so please try and make it happen.”queen

The campaigning worked out well for the two but this also led to the pair having an extremely frenzied schedule. They had to attend the girl’s soccer game, the girl’s tennis match, a boy’s soccer game, the elementary pep fest, the senior picnic, the high school pep fest and of course, the homecoming football game. “Homecoming is always a fun week but it was pretty hectic and I’ll be happy to give up the crown for next year because I know I’ll be giving it to the right person,” states the King. The Queen agreed wholeheartedly, shouting “HAPPY!” when asked how she would feel about giving up the crown.

The best part after the coronation was the crowd’s attitude change towards their Royal Highnesses. “Being King has made me realize that people look at you differently, for example they look at me and smile, which makes me feel good because at least I know I’m doing something right!” chuckled Grimes, as he thought of all the uproar people would make as he entered a room. Queen Simons also had a great week as people would bow down to her in the halls saying, “All hail Queen Taylor! All hail Queen Taylor!” At the end of the week, the crowns were returned to the school but the spirit of homecoming is something that will stick with these two for their entire lives. When they think back to this week, their minds will echo with the shouts of the people bellowing, “All Hail the King and Queen!”
