On a breezy October morning Courtney strolled into the Cannon Falls atrium and was startled to see a new addition to the school. Upon further discovery she realized that a new display has been put up that contains many pages of organized senior pictures, put together by students of the 2014 graduating class. With this she begins to think about the reason this was added to the school and realizes that this display was put here by the past year’s class to rejuvenate a tradition that Courtney’s mother, a member of the class of 1986, had when she went to Cannon Falls High School. In the years past, each graduating year has donated something to the school as a legacy to remember them by. Courtney was certain this had to be the item the class of 2014 left behind. Turning the panels, she sees clearly labeled pages for some of the past years’ senior classes at Cannon Fall High School. To this Courtney was greatly intrigued and turned the panels to reveal more and more pictures of past students, some that she recognized, some she did not. Continuing to look at these senior pictures of the past decades of students she was fascinated by the years from the early 1900’s in black and white showing the different personalities and style they captured so well.

it is neat to see that some of the teachers that are at the school today, like Mrs. Dombeck and Mrs. Hoffman, are in the display showing their connections to the school starting long ago

This display was put together by a few students of the class of 2014 with the supervision of John Fogarty. He says he hopes that the students here will look at this display and see the history of the school. The display shows the earliest year of 1927 back when Cannon Falls High School was located atthe now Cannon Community Center. The school

secretary, Allison Godfrey comments on the fact that many students visit the display during lunch or passing time and are smiling and laughing at the old pictures. She also mentions, “it is neat to see that some of the teachers that are at the school today, like Mrs. Dombeck and Mrs. Hoffman, are in the display showing their connections to the school starting long ago.” One important purpose Fogarty sees the display has is bringing a sense of community to the town. To look at the names and see the local insurance company owner or the neighbor down the street, brings a special kind of connection that most people don’t realize the town of Cannon Falls has with this school. With this new addition to the school, it is clearly seen how the class of 2014 was waking up the past with the posting of old graduating years’ classes. The display also is attempting to bring back the tradition in which classes donate items to this school to form a type of legacy and their own connection to not only to school, but with this particular display, the entire community.
