It is considered, “the biggest day of the year” by band director Joel Bryan. Large group competition is a stressful day for directors and students alike as it takes months of preparation to perform well under the intense scrutiny both submit to at this competition. This year large group was a mere stone’s throw away at nearby Randolph High School on Tuesday, March 11. With a judging process based on musical elements like articulation, accuracy, pitch, tone, as well as other things, the band had a lot to perfect in the months preceding the competition. After performing and being assessed by the panel of three judges, the band’s result: Superiority. When  band director Mike Legvold was asked about his feelings on the performance he was, “very pleased” and felt that the band “played well” in the face of the “challenging music” the directors selected for the performance. Certainly, as he says, there are, “always little things to be improved upon, but the students represented themselves and the school well at the competition.” Both directors agreed they were most proud of how the band has grown as a whole and the steps that the underclassmen have made to compete at the level they did on Tuesday. The Concert Band will be performing their annual spring concert on Tuesday March 18th in the Cannon Falls High School auditorium.
