The Candy Store. Kids, begging their moms to go in, are surrounded by the incredible diversity of tasty treats, savory sweets, and delicious delights that are in store for them. Now while a Candy Store targets a much younger audience, the Cannon Falls Education Foundation found that it’s auction attracted a lot of wide eyed adults, ready to pick up what to them, is eye candy.

The Education Foundation Auction happened on Saturday April 23. Some of the items auctioned off were hand-crafted bird feeders, woodworking items, gift certificates, and other interesting prizes. “We always have many unique items at the auction.” stated Geri Geiken, President of the Education Foundation. “Some of these include a pizza a month for a year from Dudley’s, or 3 gallons of milk per week for a year.” Other items included baskets of books that were donated by some elementary school classrooms. Even though some of these items may be strange, the auction was able to raise over $30,000 this year.

Some new technology was also shown off at the event. A 3-D printer that is being used at the Cannon Falls High School was shown, creating plastic tires and trinkets. The printer was granted to the Cannon Falls High School by the Education Foundation, and has so far been used by Mr. Pliscott’s drafting class and other classes as well.

“The BombBotz [Cannon Falls Robotics Team] was kind enough to bring the new robot out to the golf club and do a demonstration for us.” On the back patio, the Robotics Team let their robot fly, and let people at the auction drive the robot over obstacles and shoot the ball. “I’m really glad that our team was able to go,” said Alex Engebretson, one of the builders of the robot. “I like that we’re able to get our name out there and show the community that this is an activity that benefits kids at Cannon Falls.”

Overall, between the sweets and the entertainment with the robot, The Education Foundation Auction was able to sell of some more items for the benefit of the school. As for next year, hopefully it can do the same.
