Halloween Dress Up Day, a Trick or a Treat

A slice of Halloween

Halloween was originally thought to have come from an ancient Celtic tradition called Samhain where people would dress up in costumes, not to trick or treat, but to actually ward off ghosts and evil spirits. While the rules were a little bit of a roadblock, some kids didn’t let it stop them.

Although the school allowed us to dress up, students couldn’t have masks or fake weapons. Sure, this makes some sense but if they allow us to dress up in a costume, a mask isn’t so far away. And with these rules some kids ran into roadblocks. Trenton Shears was going to dress up as a Zombie with a mask but because of the rule he had to spend time in the morning to apply sticky zombie makeup on his face. While he wasn’t severely affected, it would have been much easier for him if he could wear a mask.

While it’s a bummer we can’t wear masks it’s still fun to dress up and see reactions

With almost all of sixth grade dressing up, most of 7th grade and a few 8th grade students, I would  say it was a hit. Nate Harmsen, who dressed up like a slice of pizza, thought so too. “While it’s a bummer we can’t wear masks it’s still fun to dress up and see reactions.” said Nate when asked about the rules. So while some people view it as a waste of effort others still see it as a fun way to impress friends and get some candy.
