OneRepublic - A Music Review

Kellie Lawless, Staff Writer

In OneRepublic’s new album, Native, the band explores all spectrums of pop culture while still maintaining their unique sound. From songs like “Au Revoir” and “Can’t Stop”, which emit a wistful smooth sound, to songs like “Light it up”, which produce an edgier feel, the band has composed an album that everyone can love.  The lead singer’s vibrato and vocal range only add to an already superb album that is already high up on the Billboard with its number one singles, “Feel Again” and “Counting Stars”.

The album has a dreamy feel but maintains a down-to-earth nature through the stories behind each and every song. Ryan Tedder, lead singer for the band, wrote “Counting Stars” saying that he and his wife were having money problems in the first few years of their marriage. He would always say to her that they would have money to burn later on and one day instead of counting money they’ll be counting stars.

The band also put a lot of thought into their beautiful cover art saying that each animal represents the nature of each person in their band (although none of them are quick to admit to which animal fits each person). The album art, much like the album itself, has a fantasy-like look to it.

OneRepublic fans will not be disappointed.
