Batman has never looked more bright and sparkly.

A missed chance at romance

The Batman: what it lacks in romance, it attempts (and fails) to make up for in subpar fight scenes.

Romance movies have always been my favorite genre of film, so to splurge on myself I decided to go see the new movie, The Batman, and let me start off by saying, this is the worst romance movie I have ever seen. Nothing but fight scenes and gloomy skies could be seen on screen, and to make things even worse, the same song kept playing over and over again muttering what I think said, “something in the way.” It was down right terrible.

The Batman features Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne, who I personally believe should have been a little more emotional throughout the course of the movie. All he wanted to do was fight, not even thinking twice about what he really needs — to pay more attention to Catwoman. Actress Zoë Kravitz plays Selina Kyle/Catwoman who also happens to be Batman’s love interest. A small spark can be seen between the two but it wasn’t the spice I was hoping for. No steamy scenes, no heart warming connection. Nothing. Practically the entire movie was filmed in the rain and not once did Batman offer to cover Catwoman’s head with his cape. I was thoroughly disappointed. Instead, Batman was using his time to fight the Riddler, played by Paul Dano, when he should have been fighting for Catwoman’s heart. “The whole movie sucked. I brought my girlfriend and we both demanded a refund once it was over. If this is how people think romance movies should be, we mine as well start digging a grave for the genre now,” says senior Riley Keenan. For the entire movie, like Keenan, I was waiting for the smallest glimpse of romance, but not once were my hopes met.

If you’re looking for a sweet romance movie to see with your lover, I do not recommend Batman. It was by far the worst lovey dovey flick I have ever watched. I believe The Batman is being overhyped in the media and reviews do not accurately portray the disappointment this movie really is. To the DC Comics Incorporation, do better and give the people what they want — a romantic Batman.
