The Bomber Softball team was back at it again playing against Rochester Lourdes on Monday, April 21st. The Bomber girls came up short with a score of three to four, ending their winning streak. They had strong defense until the fourth inning, when everything started to crumble. Multiple errors occurred on the Bombers’ side, allowing Rochester to score two runs in both the 4th and 5th inning. With the score 0-4 in the 6th inning, the Bombers started to make connections with the bat to the ball, which allowed three runs to be brought in. Second baseman and sophomore Brooke Peters had major hits, helping test the Lourdes defense. “Towards the end,” Peters notes, “we all came together and worked for our three runs to close the gap.” Unfortunately for the girls, three hits wasn’t enough to come out with that W. Peters was disappointed with the loss, stating, “I knew we could have won if everyone was playing their best. Those kinds of games are always the hardest because you know you can do better.”

But the girls had no time for moping around, because the next day they were back at it again – though this time their opponent was dressed in red and black. With easy connections off the Kenyon pitcher right away, the girls took an early lead scoring in the first inning with Pitcher, Lydia Franken, stealing home. While adding a few insurance runs in the second inning, the girls were able to shut down Kenyon and control the game. Peters noticed the improvement from this game compared to last game and stated, “We all knew what we were doing, and overall we were playing just a lot better as a team.”

Coach Gunderson concluded that the batting was solid; with Becca Vandenheuvel and Sami Cromer sharing two RBI’s and Franken with one, it’s hard to deny his words.

The Bombers crushed the Knights with a final score of 6-0. Their next game is Friday, April 25th at home against Wabasha-Kellogg.
