Christmas is rapidly approaching, meaning that the season of scrambling for last minute presents for loved ones is upon us. Due to procrastination and last minute shopping, people don’t always get what they wished for during Christmas time. As a result, people are more likely to return the gift in exchange for money which creates awkward tension during the holidays. To save yourself and your families from this predicament, consider donating to charities instead.

In many cases, one can send money to an organization and in return receive a card to give to the person they have named. Bettering the world as a whole is the main aim for several charities. Along with others, Toys for Tots and Ronald McDonald House have been long standing charities that have used donations that they have received to directly support the health and well-being of those in need. In the name of their loved ones, people are able to donate to an organization and a cause of their choice. “Donating to charities makes us think about people other than ourselves,” senior Paige Miest expressed. “We fail to realize how our small donations to these charities actually helps immensely.” Simply donating can really bring more attention to the cause.

With the latest and greatest gadgets this side of town has ever seen, Christmas has become almost too commercialized. People should consider focusing more on the aspect of giving rather than the aspect of receiving. Rather than putting your money towards an item that your family may just end up returning, it’s better to put that money to good use and to a good cause. By allowing oneself to think about others for a change, not only will the person in need be impacted but the person giving will be impacted as well.
