Country Nights rescheduled
For now, prom is still on with a new May 23 date.
“Prom brings everyone together- jocks, nerds, grade levels, friends, couples… it’s just amazing to watch the bonds that you all have as Bombers,” Morgan Schwarz, head of CFHS’ Prom Committee and CFHS English teacher highlighted. CFHS senior and Prom Committee member, Olivia Johnson, couldn’t agree more. She revealed, “Growing up, everyone talks about their prom and how memorable it was, so, coming into high school, I knew I wanted to experience that for myself.”
Unfortunately, due to the global COVID-19 health crisis, proms across the country have been canceled, gypping many juniors and seniors out of an irreplaceable experience. Yet, luckily for Cannon Falls prom goers, there’s still hope. Instead of completely canceling the magical “Country Nights” dance which was scheduled for May 2, CFHS has opted to reschedule prom. Unless Governor Tim Walz says otherwise, prom, for now, is a go.
Schwarz has been working diligently with Cannon Falls’ Principal, Tim Hodges, and this year’s prom venue spot in Northfield, MN, The Grand. Schwarz maintained, “The ending of this year is not what any of us pictured it to be, so I’m trying to keep a little bit of normalcy for us all.” Throughout the entire pandemic, Schwartz insists The Grand has been extremely helpful and flexible. So, at the same location, for the same $50 ticket price, prom will tentatively happen on Saturday, May 23. Car Grand March (starting at the Elementary and ending at the High School Front Parking Lot) will still occur from 2:30-3:15 p.m., while Grand March will still be held starting at 4 p.m. in the auditorium.
As of right now, CFHS students should scribble May 23 down on their calendars. Upperclassmen should remain optimistic. After all, nothing can trump one night where everyone, regardless of their background, can feel like royalty.
