After a disappointing loss to La Crescent to start the season, the Bomber boys baseball team has regained its form and won five of the last six games. After giving up seven-runs in one inning to the Lancers opening day, costing Cannon Falls the game, the Bombers beat Stewartville, Byron and Lake City – even sweeping a doubleheader against Kenyon – before losing to the number-one ranked team in the state, Kasson-Mantorville, on Tuesday night. The Bombers, who are currently ranked sixteenth in the latest Minnesota 2A poll, turned up the intensity after the loss to La Crescent.

we have to keep our ‘foot on the gas’ throughout the entire game

— Levi Prestegaard

“The La Crescent loss showed us that we couldn’t try our best for the first few innings, and that’s how we have been playing as of late,” explains senior pitcher/outfielder Levi Prestegard.

The “foot on the gas” phrase is a favorite of Head Coach Bucky Lindow and has been propelling the team to fight for every inning, every at bat, and every pitch. “It means to not let up and to keep putting the pressure on the opposing team,” senior pitcher/second baseman Hunter Blakeslee said, “as Coach Meyers [pitching coach/first base coach] always says, ‘when there is blood in the water, go out and finish it’.” The Bombers will head back on the diamond Thursday night to take on Rochester Lourdes on the Eagles’ home turf.
